Makgadikgadi Pans — Botswana

Giraffes on the plainThe Makgadikgadi Pans in Northern Botswana is the largest salt flat complex in the world and is sometimes referred to as the "moonscape" salt pans for its lunar-type appearance.

Makgadikgadi is composed of many pans with sandy desert separating the pans. The largest individual pan is about 1,930 square miles and is frequently covered with water. In contrast, Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia is a single salt flat of 4,085 square miles.

The area is home to one of Africa's biggest zebra populations.

A wide range of desert activities are available including the great experience of quad biking.
