Royal Cape Golf
Club - Cape Town
The
Royal Cape Golf Club is the oldest golf course
in South Africa. It was founded as early
as 1885 by the British General Sir Henry
Torrens, who had taken over the command of
the troops at the Cape and immediately laid
out a golf course in front of his military
camp in Wynberg. It received the attribute "Royal" in
1910 by the Duke of Connaught, who represented
King George V at the opening of the first
parliament of the South African Union
Milnerton Golf Course
- Cape Town
Milnerton in the north of Cape Town lies
in one of the most windy parts of the Cape
metropolis. Particularly from December to
March, the Southeaster often blows here with
gale force, because there is no mountain
range to slow it down. Of course the Milnerton
Golf Course, being situated on a peninsula
right at the sea, is fully exposed to its
power. That is what makes the course a real
challenge.
The
terrain is quite flat and has no trees. The
view of Table Mountain, however, is breathtaking.
Another attraction are the many waterbirds
on the bordering lagoon. One plays nine holes
out and nine holes back to the club house.
Erinvale Golf Course
- Somerset West (Wine Lands)
The
Erinvale Golf Course in Somerset West was
designed by Gary Player and is seen as one
of the best courses of the Western Cape province
of South Africa. In 1996 it hosted the IGA
World Cup of Golf. The 18 hole
course is situated on the former Erinvale Farm at the foot of the Helderberg
Mountains. The views are spectacular.
